Introductory Remarks & Meet the Team

The Hackathon is an opportunity to advance team solutions from their current state to robust prototypes incorporating best practices, ready to be tested and rolled out. CIJA US and Dokukino will introduce the concept as part of the broader Resonant Voices Initiative.

Defining Hackathon Success & Meet the Mentors

This session will introduce the overall goal of the Hackathon and individual phases of the event: hacking, pitching, and awards selection. Mentors will be on-site throughout the Hackathon to provide feedback and support on various issues ranging from campaign development, targeted advertising on Facebook and YouTube, audience research, and impact measurement. There will be time slots when mentors will be allocated to specific teams to help them hack their solutions. Schedule will be available at the start of the Hackathon.

Icebreaker & Find Your Team Hacking Space

Teams will take over work spaces throughout the Villa Belvedere to accommodate the intensive solution hacking sessions throughout the Hackathon. Suggestions for Team Hacking Spaces will be available in advance as well. Each team will have a set hacking spot for mentors to locate them easily.

Administrative Updates & Day 1 Benchmarks

Day 1 Ideation and prototype development. During the work sessions, teams should share and test their ideas, drawing on the support of mentors and subject-matter experts, and aim to develop a prototype that shows their idea in action. Examples of prototypes could include but are not limited to the following: paper mock-up of a website or website application; a live landing page; or a draft Facebook page with sample message content posted on the page.

The Challenge Ahead: Countering Extremist Narratives in the Western BalkansThis panel discussion will examine the core challenge of the Resonant Voices Initiative: How to effectively push back against extremist narratives online? Day 2 Finalizing prototypes and pitch preparation. In the final stretch of the hackathon, teams should finalize their prototypes and begin planning and preparing their final project pitch. Teams are encouraged to review award selection criteria at the beginning of day 2. Mentors will continue to work one-on-one with teams to finalize prototype and pitches.

Strategic Communication to Prevent and Counter Violent Extremism in the Western Balkans: What is the Role for Governments and Civil Society?The Resonant Voices Initiative is empowering local civil society actors to become the resonant voices against extremism in their communities. There is an important role for governments to play too – through their own communication and through supporting these community voices.
